This edition has been expanded to include consideration of bathing, the taking of mineral waters and the use of vaccines. William Buchan was educated at the University of Edinburgh, but wrote his MD thesis while serving as medical officer to a branch of the Foundling Hospital in Yorkshire, an experience which he acknowledges in his preface.
